In Theory

"It's just a theory". This is the typical response by creationists to the theory of evolution. Such a response reveals the ignorance of the utterer. Not all theories are the same.

Theory in lay terms is of the kind "I think Keebler elves are shovelling coal into a giant furnace which lights up the earth". While it certainly explains solar events from a stone age perspective it is obviously a worthless explanation and is not based in reality at all. One may note the similarity between this theory and certain aspects of major world religions which require literal interpretation for maximum salvation.

Evolution is a scientific theory. A scientific theory is a model of reality that is verifiable, testable and predictable. There are literally millions of data points that verify the model of evolution. Intermediate species can be predicted and later verified. Calling evolution a theory is mathematically true. From an engineering perspective is is hard factual reality.

I have a theory about my existence. If I get granular I have on the order of 15,000 data points that verify the model. Every day the model is used to predict events and every day the events happen.

All of this lines up perfectly if I make one basic assumption:

That I was breeding stock in a program propagating enlightenment genetics at the expense of the gene holder.

It's a mathematical theory.
